Rose Tinted Glasses ’
BY
MARY BELFIELD

It’s late at night the lights are dim,
There's not a sign of a double chin
Not a wrinkle or age spot seen in the glass
Just the silhouette of a slim, pretty lass.
Hair's a shade lighter and now’s a true blonde
As silky and smooth as the proverbial millpond.
The still slender figure in tailored attire
Could perhaps still set some hearts a-fire.
Boobs are not sagging the waistline remains visible
The silky, smooth legs atop high heels irresistible.

The following morning at break of dawn
A diverse picture begins to form.
It really must be a trick of the light
The mirror perhaps should be moved to the right.
For now a different image is shown
It’s the female half of Darby and Joan.
Exasperatedly, shaking of head
Last night’s euphoria put to bed
Staring askance at the monstrous sight
Of a crinkled, wrinkled, grey-haired fright.
Her spectacles fall glumly to the floor
BUT …peering short-sightedly… she’s attractive once more!!

I’m sure that you will all agree the moral of this piece must be ….
Dispose of your anti rose-tinted glasses... and see what you would like to see!
