‘ One Good Turn ’
BY
MARY BELFIELD
“Where have you been, gallivanting all day?”
She chirped at her Partner in her ’fishwife’ way.
“I’ve fed the kids and cleaned out our home
With no help from you but all on my own.
Your family called round and asked for you
But finding you missing again, off they flew.
… “I’m so sorry dear I got carried away
By the wonderful thermals out over the bay.
The sky was so blue and the sunshine was warm
The fish were prolific and the water so calm.”
I truly meant to be back before now
I really didn’t want to cause a row.”
“Well flap your wings and fly away
You can please yourself all night and day.
Find yourself another nest
All of us think that that is best.
The chicks and I now love your brother
For … ONE GOOD TERN DESERVES ANOTHER.
