April May Awakening
by

How April takes us by surprise
Still seeing winter in disguise
Trees remain undressed, drab grey
The green explosion heralds May
Late winter carpet of mystic frost had lain
Drew us closer beneath the counterpane
Early morning to rise, what dread
Sweet April’s dawn warms lovers bed
Sun streaming through curtain
Blinks our eyes awake; uncertain
Slowly lights our souls; a new dawning
Good to be alive on this golden morning
What is this stirring invoked by April-May
Dancing through our bodies, a fire at play
Sun-warmed waves bathe our nakedness
Revives lost urgings and tenderness
The music of the gentle perfumed breeze
Whispers through the blossom trees
Showering down their pale, pink petals
In soft clouds upon us touch and settles
Sun lights up with golden glow
“Down” upon her thigh blushing sweetly so
Bowing gently to his armorial breath
His lightest touch responds to each caress
He, glorious butterfly, radiating iridescence
Is drawn to open flower’s essence
Drawing upon sweet nectar there enfolded
Flutters their bodies, in unison moulded
Sap rising, flowing now faster
Burst forth in wondrous rapture
Now entwined as blossoming vine
Savouring afterglow like young new wine
Now spent, they sublime do rest
Head pillowed by softly beating breast
Together lay, the stillness all enfolding
Rapturously, they are radiantly glowing.
Reflecting, April-May, as man and wife
Blessed harbingers of life
Bringing forth glorious new birth
New life, to this our wondrous earth
